Sam holds a privileged position as one of BYL's senior teachers. We've included her story here as it is hugely inspiring in terms of how she was able to overcome years of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and become so proficient at the yoga that she attended teacher training to lead the Advanced class at our studio. It is yet more evidence as to how effective the yoga can be at eliminating chronic issues and giving those who are dedicated a new lease on life.  

WHEN DID YOU START PRACTICING HOT YOGA? I started with Bikram Yoga in 2001, and regular hatha yoga before that. 

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO TRY HOT YOGA? Poor health and the beginning of a love for all forms of yoga. I was diagnosed with chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis, and was effectively destined to live a life of painful deformity and immobility in my joints. 

WHAT BENEFITS HAVE YOU FELT FROM DOING HOT YOGA, AND HOW HAS IT INSPIRED YOU? Bikram Yoga is the practise that totally changed my life. The Rheumatoid Arthritis is gone. So much so that my body is in top condition to the point that I now lead Advanced classes at the Canary Wharf studio. I now enjoy  hugely increased energy, muscle strength, toning, flexibility, improved digestion and an improved sense of well-being.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE JUST STARTING YOGA? Small baby steps, listen and come a lot in the beginning. When you make it a habit, don’t be surprised by the immense rewards!
